Hound Dog - Elvis Presley
I think we can all agree that Elvis Presley was one of the greatest musicians of all time. He wrote some of the most classical songs in the world and was adored by everyone he sang too. This particular song is one of his best in my opinion and has the catchiest beat and melody there is. Elvis’s voice matched with a upbeat tempo and good lo fashioned attitude make for a dancing, fun, sing along jazzy song. The music itself is particularly interesting because it sounds as though there is a million things going on but its really not that complicated. There is a very jazzy and payed back feel to the music that I feel was made to be danced along to. In the lyrics he is singing about someone just crying all the time and how they are a hound dog haha. He is obviously directing it towards someone but that doesn’t seem to be really clear. I also feel like he did this in a generic way so it could be applicable to anyone who listens to it. Meaning they could put themselves in that position and just rock with it. All in all if you want great music go and listen to Elvis
Hey Ridge thanks for sharing your thoughts. I disagree that Elvis is the greatest of all time, more that he was the most marketable musician of the time. Hound Dog was not originally Elvis' song, it was originally done by a black woman named Big Mama Thornton. A good handful of Elvis' songs were actually covers, in fact he asked Dolly Parton if he could cover her song "I Will Always Love You" and she wouldn't let him because of the way royalties worked, she almost wouldn't own the song anymore and she talks about how much she would have regretted letting him do it. ReplyDeleteHey Ridge! I also did my post this week on Elvis Presley and the influence he was for generations to come. In my post I wondered how he became so famous and realized that I didn't know many of his songs besides the few classics I had heard. In regard to Sam's comment, I'm grateful to know more about him as a musician since I don't know much on the subject. I do believe he was good enough to make such a huge impact on the music industry and could be titled "King of Rock". Thanks for your post on his song Hound Dog!
